Arkansas Summer STEM Academy Grant Project
The purpose of the Arkansas Summer STEM Academy Grant Project is to promote and fund summer academic programs that provide real world learning experiences in a university environment and to enhance STEM career choices of Arkansas high school students. This program is not intended to sustain or provide continued support for existing programs, but is encouraged to be used for pilot data for future federal or private foundation funding.
The goal of the grant project is to support the development of summer day camps or residential college experiences for rising high school students, using real-world applications in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The camp will also provide a mentoring system that will encourage and promote student participation, and success, in advanced science and mathematics courses and will enhance student career choices in the STEM field.
Faculty members at Arkansas colleges, universities, and educational organizations may submit applications to the Arkansas Science & Technology Authority. Applications must be submitted in accordance with procedures established at the institutions for the submission of requests for external support. The deadline for application submission is Febuary 4, 2010.
The Arkansas Science & Technology Authority supports a competitive cash-matching grant project for the Arkansas Summer STEM Academy. The Authority will provide a $10,000 award for which the awardee must secure a match for not less than fifty (50%) of the total cost for establishing the Academy. Match funds may include cash monies or in-kind services.
